Joplin's only gay bar to shut down after Recent Year's Eve party

Joplin's only gay bar, The ER, does not market itself as a gay bar.

Rather, it's an "equality bar," explained its general manager, Brett Mason.

That's not because Joplin is a conservative community, Mason said Friday.

Rather, the bar's owner and managers didn't want anyone to feel excluded when they opened the place in June Thus, "ER" stands for "Equality Rocks."
