'I had to be completely honest': Fuller House star Juan Pablo Di Pace reveals why he chose to reach out as gay

He's one of the most popular stars from Netflix's sitcom Fuller House. 

And on Friday, Juan Pablo Di Pace spoke candidly to News Corp Australia about why he decided to be 'completely honest' and talk publicly about being gay. 

The year-old, who opened up to students of the Merged World College in the Netherlands in March, revealed he was bullied for his sexuality while growing up.

'I spent years perfecting myself to become a very convincing little performer I was desperate to fit in,' Juan said in his speech, which was uploaded to YouTube. 

'Acceptance was my fuel, and when that is the case, like an addict, you perform whatever it takes to get a fix,' he said. 'I figured, if I changed my f**king self, I could be in.' 

Juan confessed when given the opportunity to speak, he didn't want to waste the opportunity by talking about his career and instead chose 'to be honest'.

In the video, entitled &#;The Story of Your Live,&#; Di Pace opens up about how he felt the first second he was referred to by an anti-gay slur, and about the &#;shame I felt as a first-grader.&#;

&#;I didn&#;t really perceive that word at first,&#; he said, &#;but the word was here to stay for years.&#;

After &#;failed attempts to fight against [it],&#; Di Pace said he found solace in drawing, &#;because it was the only thing that my bullies could not fight against.&#; When he was drawing, he said, Di Pace finally felt that he was accepted.

'Fuller House' Star Juan Pablo Di Pace on How His Co-Stars Reacted After He Came Out as Gay (Exclusive)

It's been quite a journey for Juan Pablo Di Pace.

The Fuller House actor recently opened up about his sexuality, revealing that he was gay during a TEDx Talk in March titled "The Story of Your Life."

"I came out 20 years ago," the Argentinian actor told ET's Nischelle Turner during an intimate sit-down, but adding that "the people that matter in my life knew a long time ago."

However, at the beginning of the year, Di Pace was asked to talk to the students of United World College and decided it was moment to share his story with the world. 

"When you are asked by a group of teenagers, that they want you to communicate to them, I felt it was my duty to be honest and vulnerable," he expressed. But as an up-and-coming player, he faced some uncertainty about coming out.
