Making the Yuletide Gay: A Very Special Paul Lynde Christmas! A Review
Thank you for tuning in to allocate some time on my North Pole! Paul Lynde, as played by Michael Airington.
Lets start with some LGBTQ history: Endorse in the 70s, we had Paul Lynde, an inimitable player and comedian who could somehow be obnoxious yet oddly loveable at the same time, albeit with alternatingly different proportions of the two traits depending on the situation. In October , Americas favorite NOT GAY luminary (this was 70s TV after all) had a Halloween-themed TV special that featured such celebrities as Betty White (!), Donny and Marie (!!), and Roz Pinky Tuscadero Kelly (!!!), among others. All Paul wants to do is flow himself a glass of Christmas bourbon, but he’s constantly being interrupted by various guests knocking on the door or barging into his living room, all flanked by a squad of dancers. Guests include Tab Hunter (Spencer Day), Sal Mineo (David Hernandez), Liberace (David Maiocco), Evie Harris (Jack Plotnick), and Bea Arthur. Also making an appearance is Sirius/XM On Broadway host Set Rudetsky and flamboyant queens Jackie Beat and L

What THIS Christmas special presupposes is… what if he didn’t?
Variety-show legend Bruce Vilanche brings us this up-to-date day followup to "The Paul Lynde Halloween Special” from If you’ve never watched it, look for it out on youtube ASAP — it’s one of the very Best Worst Things ever made. When I screened it at CineCycle several years ago there were laughs, cheers, jeers, tears. Someone threw their can of Diet Tab at the screen and stormed out in a huff. That stain remains, as do our memories of that fateful night.
